Jo Zakiewicz
Therapy for Adults, Couples and Relationships in Margate, East London and Online

You may have spent a long time managing on your own, wondering whether things can feel different. Therapy offers a space to slow down, make sense of what you're experiencing, and explore lasting change within a warm, supportive and collaborative relationship.

My Approach

My approach is built on creating a safe, open and trusting connection where you feel heard and understood. I believe that our experiences and relationships, both past and present, shape how we see ourselves and move through the world. Therapy can help you develop a deeper understanding of yourself, make sense of recurring patterns, and explore how you would like to relate to yourself and others. Together, we can address patterns in thoughts, feelings and behaviours that may no longer be serving you, helping you feel more empowered and in control of your life.

Who I Work With

I work with individuals experiencing a range of issues, including:

  • Anxiety and stress

  • Depression

  • Low confidence and self-esteem

  • Relationship difficulties and communication problems

  • Childhood trauma and relational trauma

  • Grief and loss

  • Life transitions (career changes, becoming a parent, loss)

  • Work-related issues

  • Feeling stuck or unfulfilled

  • Parenthood challenges

  • Perinatal mental health

  • Gender identity and sexuality challenges

  • Unhelpful patterns in thoughts, feelings, and behaviours

  • Past experiences affecting present relationships

I also work with couples and relationships facing various challenges, such as:

  • Communication breakdowns and conflict

  • Feeling disconnected or emotionally distant

  • Trust and intimacy issues

  • Life transitions impacting the relationship

  • Patterns that keep repeating

I support couples/relationships to understand recurring patterns, improve communication, and develop greater awareness of how each person's experiences may influence the way they relate to each other.

My Background

I have worked as a therapist in charities and now in private practice. I also bring over 20 years' experience as an early years teacher and leader in London, supporting families through various challenges and life transitions. This work in a diverse setting has shaped my commitment to inclusive, culturally sensitive practice and deepened my ability to create compassionate, safe spaces where people from all backgrounds feel heard and understood.

I hold a Level 6 Diploma in Transactional Analysis (TA) Counselling and I am a member of BACP, NCPS, UKCP, and UKATA. I am in advanced training as a Psychotherapist. TA is a humanistic therapy which is built on the understanding that we have the power within ourselves to grow and make positive changes in our lives. It works on the premise that life experiences and relationships - both past and present - are central to how we communicate, navigate the world, and feel about ourselves.

Inclusive Practice

I welcome clients of all genders, ethnicities, and backgrounds. My practice is LGBTQIA+ aware, inclusive, and affirming. I work with an intersectional lens, understanding that aspects of your identity - including neurodiversity, race, sexuality, gender, class, ability, and religion - shape your unique experiences and the person you are today. I am committed to offering culturally sensitive, personalised therapy.
